Alation is a hyper-growth startup leading the Machine Learning Data Catalog space with an innovative product, passionate customers, and a team of people all working towards a common goal: to change the way people work with data. We are growing as an organization and hiring top talent.

It’s tough to point to just one reason why people choose to join Alation—there are simply too many. Even for someone heading up the company’s staffing function, I’d have a difficult time listing them all. There is a mix of collaboration, camaraderie, and dedication that almost needs to be experienced to be understood. Luckily, we don’t have to brag about how Alation is a terrific company because the San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal as well as Inc. Magazine just named Alation one of 2019 best places to work!

We were recognized among some of the best-known and most respected companies in this highly-competitive, technology mecca that we call home. We’re extremely proud and honored to receive these two recognitions.

Why Us?

What makes the “Best Places to Work” and the “Best Workplaces” awards so meaningful is that the winners are determined exclusively by each company’s employees. Employees from thousands of companies were asked to complete an assessment measuring their company on values such as trust in leadership, collaborative culture, personal engagement, and satisfaction of individual needs through great benefits and perks. Building the internal goodwill to be recognized in this way does not just happen overnight. Scores of dedicated Alation employees—whom we call Alationauts—have created and perpetually enhanced a company atmosphere that encourages new ideas, rewards success, and celebrates diversity.

From its very beginning six years ago, Alation has placed innovation and customers—and the recognition of the employees responsible for it—at the forefront. We’ve hired the industry’s brightest talent to fuel our ascent to the market leadership we now hold. Technology is important but people are the real competitive advantage.

When the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal, and Inc. Magazine asked us what makes Alation a special place to work, our employees practically ran out of space to respond! They did, however, highlight a blend of programs that make us an exceptional company: frequent All-Hands meetings to keep employees informed and engaged, our technical engineering sessions for spirited knowledge sharing, Values awards that recognize and reward colleagues who go the extra mile, and support for a philanthropic committee focused on charitable causes such as My Red Shoes.org. All of this reflects Alation’s focus on creating a workplace environment that is unique and inspiring, and that people want to be part of.

Still, what truly defines Alation and makes it unique, the very backbone of the company—are our core values that represents the best of our culture—move the ball, listen like we’re wrong, build for the long term, and measure success through customer impact. These principles frame our choices and behaviors towards achieving Alation’s Vision—to empower and embody a curious and rational world.

In Conclusion

We are proud of Alation’s culture. We are proud of the work we do. We are proud of Alation as a company. And we are honored that San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal, and Inc. Magazine have recognized what every employee already knows: that Alation is a great place to work—in the Bay Area and across all of our other global locations, from California to Chennai, New York, London and beyond!

So here is a well-deserved shout-out to all Alationauts, THANK YOU!
