A Business Analyst's Guide To Managing Change Requests

BA Learnings

It’s common knowledge that people tend to resist change as much as they can. However, without change, there can’t be progress and BAs would certainly not have that much to do. When working on large projects, change requests from stakeholders are to be expected. Successful project managers and analysts know how to manage them without bringing the project to a standstill.

Eliciting Requirements From Dispersed Stakeholders

BA Learnings

If you are meeting or contacting stakeholders for the first time and trying to understand their world, you need structure. By structure, I mean a framework of questions to channel the direction of the conversation or requirements elicitation. I was invited to prepare a business process documentation for a client who was based in another country. Traveling to meet the client was not an option. Though a Skype call could have helped, I didn’t want to go in blind.

What BAs Should Know About Feedback Analysis

BA Learnings

Most people think they know what they’re good at. They are usually wrong. More often, people know what they’re not good at — and even then more people are wrong than right — Peter F. Drucker Peter Drucker emphasized the need for professionals to know themselves in order to manage themselves through feedback analysis. To perform effectively, people need to know and understand themselves.

Artificial Intelligence: Implications On Marketing, Analytics, And You

Occam's Razor

A rare post today. It looks a little further out into the future than I normally tend to. It attempts to simplify a topic that has more than it’s share of coolness, confusion and complexity. While the phrase Artificial Intelligence has been around since the first human wondered if she could go further if she had access to entities with inorganic intelligence, it truly jumped the shark in 2016.

Notes on artificial intelligence, December 2017

Most of my comments about artificial intelligence in December, 2015 still hold true. But there are a few points I’d like to add, reiterate or amplify. As I wrote back then in a post about the connection between machine learning and the rest of AI , It is my opinion that most things called “intelligence” — natural and artificial alike — have a great deal to do with pattern recognition and response. Accordingly, it can be reasonable to equate machine learning and AI.

It's Not The Ink, It's The Think: 6 Effective Data Visualization Strategies

Occam's Razor

Ten years, and the 944,357 words, are proof that I love purposeful data, collecting it, pouring smart strategies into analyzing it, and using the insights identified to transform organizations. The Artificial Intelligence Opportunity: A Camel to Cars Moment

Occam's Razor

Over the last couple years, I’ve spent an increasing amount of time diving into the possibilities Deep Learning (DL) offers in terms of what we can do with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Some of these possibilities have already been realized (more on this later in the post). And, I could not be more excited to see them out in the world. Through it all, I’ve felt there are a handful of breath-taking realities that most people are not grasping when it comes to an AI-Powered world.
