The problems down in the mature bucket, those are optimizations, they aren’t showstoppers. I can point to the year 2001. Then also, it was the heyday for data warehousing and BI. Frankly, leading data science teams early on, you almost always had to struggle against the BI teams. Those are nice problems to have.
