Fun fact : I co-founded an e-commerce company (realistically, a mail-order catalog hosted online) in December 1992 using one of those internetworking applications called Gopher , which was vaguely popular at the time. Cloud gets introduced: Amazon AWS launched in public beta in 2006. in lieu of simply landing in a data lake.

2006: Amazon spearheads the cloud initiative, drops EC2 and S3 into the market. 2007: Amazon launches SimpleDB, a non-relational (NoSQL) database that allows businesses to cheaply process vast amounts of data with minimal effort. The platform is built on S3 and EC2 using a hosted Hadoop framework. Hadoop was developed in 2006.
