The problem for many new or experienced analysts has been that they either don't have access to any dataset (newbies) or the data they have access to is finite or from an incomplete or incorrect implementation (experienced). And, happily, it has almost all of the Google Analytics features implemented correctly.

Anyone who deals with big-box retailers, for example, has likely implemented Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) as a standard for receiving purchase orders and sending advanced shipping notifications (ASNs) to those customers. Very few ERP vendors have implemented processes within their software to track that kind of information.

Too many new things are happening too fast and those of us charged with measuring it have to change the wheels while the bicycle is moving at 30 miles per hour (and this bicycle will become a car before we know it – all while it keeps moving, ever faster). Ready to use Google or Yahoo! And I doubt it is going to happen soon.

The challenge is that you should have done enough work upfront to know what's important to the business, got a rough sense for things you can fix right away and their value, and then done some back of the napkin calculations about the Economic Value your fixes will add. That takes a few days of pain. I know you know that. :).
